One for the Blackbird, One for the Crow - Finalist for the Washington State Book Award
I have been sitting on this news for a while, but today I finally get to announce that One for the Blackbird, One for the Crow is a finalist for the Washington State Book Award.
It has been my goal to win a few literary awards ever since I began writing seriously, more than a dozen years ago. Whether Blackbird wins the award or not, this is a move closer to that milestone, and I'm very excited and grateful to have come this far. I feel that Blackbird is my best work to date (at least, my best work that has been published so far), and it feels really good to be acknowledged in this way.
Also, today is my grandma's birthday. When I got the news earlier this month that I was a finalist, I told my mom, who was in the hospital with my grandma at the time. She told Granny, who--in the midst of an otherwise trying day--"smiled real big and let out a jolly laugh." That made me feel best of all.
I'm not sure when the winner will be chosen or announced, but I'm very grateful to be a finalist.
